The Danish European Social Survey 2020

Danish data was collected and coded in line with the official ESS Round 10 (2020-22) self-completion fieldwork.

The Danish European Social Survey 2020

The Danish Center for Social Science Research (VIVE) fielded a version of the ESS Round 10 self-completion questionnaire to a nationally representative sample from 16 October 2021 to 12 March 2022.

Data was collected and coded in accordance with the official ESS10 Data Protocol (Self Completion) (Edition 1.3, February 2022) via web-based and paper questionnaires.

This means that the data collected is directly comparable with the nine countries who conducted Round 10 in self-completion modes as part of the official ESS dataset.

The Danish version of the questionnaire included all modules that were fielded in self-completion modes during Round 10 (2020-22) of the ESS. Specifically:

  • Identifier and weight variables: All 10 variables
  • Section A (core): All 139 variables
  • Section B (core): All 30 variables
  • Socio-demographics (core): 48 variables
  • Section C (core): 96 variables
  • Section D (module): 91 variables
  • Administrative variables (core): 27 variables

The gross sample includes 8,300 individual respondents. All ESS variable names have been used to make comparisons with the main ESS dataset as easy as possible.

Random probability methods were used at every stage of the sampling. The sample was formed using the SAS procedure "Proc SurveySelect." In collaboration with Statistics Denmark, the Simple Random Sample (SRS) method without replacement was employed.

This method ensures an equal and random chance of selection for all individuals. It generates a new random seeding for the population with each survey, guaranteeing that the same individuals are not selected from the population every time.

The collection of data was led by Principal Investigator (PI), Stefan Bastholm Andrade (VIVE), with support from co-PI, Torben Fridberg.

The study adhered to Danish data protection regulations, which follows the international regulations.

VIVE and Statistics Denmark follows The Danish Code of Conduct for Research Integrity.

VIVE follows a set of ethical declarations.

Statistics Denmark is obliged to follow a number of laws and regulations.
